Andrea Eklund been at Central Washington University teaching Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising for 12 years. Graduating from Washington State University in 2002 with a Masters of Arts in Apparel Design, she was an outstanding student in the top 3% of her class.
After graduating, Andrea was a Laboratory Technician at Nordstrom Product Group, Nordstrom’s private label division. After one year in the testing lab she was promoted to a Quality Engineer. This is where she learned the ins and outs of textiles, colors, prints, quality assurance and manufacturing. Andrea learned specific testing techniques and collaborated with a team to produce high quality products to meet Nordstrom’s high standards.
Andrea has travelled throughout the world and has learned every aspect needed to know about the fashion industry. Her talents are created by true passion for the industry and has implemented her knowledge in the best way anyone can; by educating.
Andrea’s work has addressed various topics including a thesis adapted during receiving her Master’s degree; “Using Aesthetic Principles To Challenge “So-Called” Experts ‘How To Dress’ Advice For Apparel Choices For Plus-Size Women”. Her work includes creative original designs and research studies.
As well as being the Student Fashion Association advisor, and the Apparel, Textiles, and Merchandising director, Eklund is consistently involved with the program and strives to produce the education needed for her students to thrive post-graduation.
Outside of school, Andrea enjoys roller derby, and you can find her coaching the local roller derby team, the Rodeo City Rollergirls. She plays a large role in the community and is frequently initiating projects that give-back. Andrea is married to her high school sweet heart and has a toddler, who is becoming quite the fashionable gent.
